STaR Chart Opinion

In the area of teacher preparation and development our campus is at the developmental level. This means that only 40% of our teachers are currently meeting the SBEC standards and that only 6-24% of our technology budget is being used for staff development. Our ultimate goal is to have around the clock access to online resources for teachers, parents and students. We should be working to ensure complete alignment with the technology TEKS set forth by the state of Texas. Another goal of the 2020 technology plan is to make sure that 100% of all teachers are meeting the SBEC standards and at least 30% of the technology budget going to staff development.

In my opinion our campus and state has a long way to go to reach the standards that have been developed in the long range plan. There is a great demand for teachers to be in a continuous cycle of being updated on the most recent technology if they are expected to model the use of technology, integrate technology into lessons and ensure that students will be able to make good use of technology when they are ready to go into the workforce.
There is a district wide issue with technology staff development. At the state, district and campus levels incremental improvements are being made to better meet the needs of teachers and therefore meet the needs of our students, as well as, the state goal by 2020. I believe that we need to concentrate on making sure that the technology is staying as current as possible in our schools and that the necessary training is made available for teachers and students.
